Sittanvasal Sittanvasal is 15 Km from Pudukottai. Number of magalithic dolmens attest the antiquity of the place. The earliest Brahmi Tamil script of 2nd century B.C is found in the natural cavern, called Eladippattam. In this cave, we find the stone beds used by jain monks, some 2000 years ago. The cave on the western slope contains the celebrated Sittanvasal paintings, painted in frescosecco technique in minearl colours. The paintings here are the living examples of Tamilian art tradition and performing art. The painting scene is a beautiful lotus pond with lotus flowers, lillies, fish,geese, buffaloes and elephants. Sundareswarar temple here was build by Adithya Chola. Kalasakkadu is a pre-historic site close by. Ponamaravathy Is 37 kms From Pudukkottai. The two temples are of Choleeswara Alagiperumal, and they belong to the later Chola and Pandya period. Aranthangi This is the second largest town in the district. The Viswanatha temple, and the Rajendra Choleeswaram are here. Peraiyur: This is about 13 kms from Pudukkottai. The Naganathaswamy temple here belongs to 12th century A.D. The temple is an important pilgrim center in the region. Government Museum : Government Museum is located at Thirugokarnam, a suburb of Pudukkottai. This is one of the important museums and the second largest in Tamilnadu. There are rare collections of Geology, Zoology, Anthropology, Archeaology. It has sculptures, bronze images, weapons, paintings, copper plates, wood carvings, musical instruments, coins, manuscripts and historical records. The Museum was started in the year 1910. This is one of the tourist attractions in Pudhukottai district. Open on all days except Fridays, second Saturdays and three national holidays.
