Introduction

Pilliarpatti: It is situated 15 kms west of Karaikudi 8 kms east of Thirupattur and 68 kms east of Madurai. At the end of the road here the famous Karpaka Vinayakar Temple can be seen here. The village derives its name i.e., Pillaiyar village from the temple. The presiding deity is called Karpaga Pillaiyar, and it is 6 feet high and 5 feet wide. People from various parts of the state come here everyday and large number of pilgrims assemble here during the festival season. Every year during August-September the Ganesh Chathruthi festival is celebrated here. Kundrakudi: Kundrakudi is situated 11 kms east of Thiruppathur and 11 kms west of Karaikudi Railway station. In Tamil, kundram means hillock and kudi means village. This place is famous only for its temples. At the top of the hillock there is a temple in which the presiding by Lord Subramaniya with six faces towards the east. The main festivals are visakam in May, kiruthigai in July, skandhashasti in November, poosam in February and uthiram in April. This place attracts large number of pilgrims throughout the year. Karaikudi: Karaikudi is the taluk headquarters of Karaikudi taluk. It is situated on the enroute of to Rameswaram. Karaikudi is famous for its temple. During May-June 10 days Visakam festival is conducted in the Koppudaiyanayaki Amman Temple. It is situated 143 kms from Rameswaram. It is well connected with rail and road to important towns in the state.
